This is the 2nd year that I've gotten to see the Elkins bunch and I was quite happy to receive the email requesting a 2010 shoot. Their kids are old enough to mind and be pleasant on demand, they are all super laid back, and because of this I get to show up and do my job with no unforseen surprises or dilemmas. It's EASY! I was doubly excited when they asked what I thought about me shooting them doing their favorite hobby. Music to my ears. They're avid runners so they all showed up in their running gear ready to just have fun doing what they love to do as a family.
We traveled with the CoVans to Gruene, TX this past weekend and had an awesome time dipping our feet into the cold Guadalupe, eating icecream cones on the lawn outside of Gruene Hall, laying on the lawn and looking at the stars afterwards, and shooting some pool inside the oldest dance hall in Texas. The weather was perfect, the company was good, and the music was great.
My husband and I lived in this area the first two years of our marriage (before kids) so we get so excited and nostalgic when we travel I-35. He kept saying to me, "This is where we belong." And after such an awesome weekend, I'm choosing not to ponder that he might be right or I'm liable to craft a For Sale sign and stick it in the front yard tomorrow. Gruene is where we've listened to the likes of Asleep at the Wheel and where my hubby nearly was arrested trying to meet Willie Nelson in his college days. It's a great part of Texas that holds many memories for us.
We took advantage of the beautiful scenery to take some family pictures of our dear friends. It's been a few years since they've had their pictures taken as a family and I'm hoping that the wait, the trip, and our company was worth it. They made Gruene look even better with their western wear.
We last met in the Spring and now the Rys family came to see me in their fall hues. I also photographed baby Audrey about a year ago when she was a newborn and so I know that everytime I see her in the coming years she will have changed so much from our previous encounter. Her hair is growing and her personality is on full display. This is such a fun age with little ones. I am really loving the moody, fall tones under the persimmon tree. This is my favorite time of year.
Zane is the last of the senior bunch for this week, but certainly not the least. Personality seeps through this fella's pores. He is a good friend to Gage and a good boyfriend to Taylor and good entertainment for those around him. He kept us laughing Sunday afternoon. I appreciate these three and the way they represent my work. It was an honor to be your photographer.
Taylor is Gage's cousin and I can imagine there are plenty of stories to tell when you grow up with your cousin. But, I can also imagine how special it will be for their family to watch them graduate together next Spring. Taylor is as sweet as her smile. Really. Her smile radiates warmth and kindness and in just the little time I spen with Taylor I can vouch for her sweet demeanor.
I had three senior shoots this past Sunday. One of those seniors was Gage. Gage is the oldest brother and therefore the first to graduate from high school. You can imagine how bittersweet it was for momma to watch him take his Senior pictures. All three seniors were precious...outgoing, funny, polite...everything you and I would want our kids to be at 17/18 years of age. It feels good to have these kinds of kids come to me for pictures.
If you're a horse person or an avid rodeo person then surely you've heard of Cherry Creek Equestrian in Mont Belvieu. If you're not familiar with the center then I highly recommend your check it out! It's a beautiful, state of the art facility ready to tackle your equestrian needs from boarding to lessons and even children's birthday parties. I was happy to go back and shoot some special cowboys and cowgirls to be used in some of their marketing materials. How could I go wrong with pink cowgirl boots and shiny, pint-sized belt buckles?
